who we are and what we are about

We are a group of veterans and allies dedicated to rescuing our Afghan partners and their families from Taliban persecution, supporting their visa applications to the United States, and facilitating a warm welcome upon arrival in their new home. 

"No better friend, no worse enemy" is an expression often used to describe the armed forces of the United States. While we spent much of the last 20 years of war being a "worse enemy", now we want to be the best friend we can be to our allies amongst the people of Afghanistan. 

"Shona ba shona" is a Dari phrase meaning "shoulder to shoulder". This was used as a motto by International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) military and police advisors who worked "by, with, and through" our Afghan allies. The concepts of camaraderie and equality embodied therein echo a powerful US military expression: "never above you, never below you, always beside you".

Shona Ba Shona is an organization dedicated to upholding our martial values of integrity and commitment by honoring the sacrifices our allies made alongside us. Many of us have enjoyed the classic Pashto hospitality of "melmestia" in Afghanistan or its diaspora; now it is time for us to likewise extend a warm American welcome to our friends and help them make a new home in the land of opportunity.
